Leclaire, Serge

Serge Leclaire was born in Strasbourg in 1924 and died in Paris in 1994. A student and associate of Jacques Lacan, he was a psychiatrist and psychoanlyst in Paris. As founder, in 1968, of the department of psychoanalysis at the University of Paris VIII, he introduced the teaching of psychoanalysis to French universities. At the same time, he became involved in the feminist movement. He was the chairman of the Société Française de Psychanalyse (1963) and a member of the board of the Ecole Freudienne de Paris (1964-1968). He experimented with new ways of disseminating psychoanalytic ideas, including film and television. He founded the assocation APUI, devoted the the study of psychoanalysis and society. His works, considered classics of psychoanalysis, include:
