As speaking beings, we don't relate to sex through mere anatomy, but through a logic of sexuated identification. Symbolic and real, phallic jouissance and the solitude of a non-symbolizable “Other-sex,” are not in contradiction but in interplay, as this presentation of Lacan's quantic formulas will attempt to show.

Paula Hochman practices psychoanalysis in Buenos Aires. She is a member of Topologie en Extension, a professor at universities in Argentina and Brazil, and the author of La función fálica y la castración (TEE), Psicoanálisis del narcisismo y el fantasma. Un método en el laberinto (Ed. Logos Kalós, Buenos Aires 2019), and, in English translation, The Courage to Read (TEE/ L. Álvarez, 2021).

Continuing Education
Two (2) CE credits will be granted to Licensed Social Workers, Licensed Psychoanalysts, and Licensed Psychologists who have registered, have documented evidence of attendance of the presentation, and complete the evaluation form. Upon completion of the evaluation form, a Certificate of Completion will be emailed to all participants who comply with these requirements.
Social Workers: Après-Coup Psychoanalytic Association is recognized by the New York State Education Department’s State Board for Social Work as an approved provider of continuing education for licensed social workers (#SW-0597).
Licensed Psychoanalysts: Après-Coup Psychoanalytic Association is recognized by the New York State Education Department’s State Board for Licensed Psychoanalysts as an approved provider of continuing education for licensed psychoanalysts (#P-0044).
Licensed Psychologists: Après-Coup Psychoanalytic Association is recognized by the New York State Education Department’s State Board for Licensed Psychologists as an approved provider of continuing education for licensed psychologists (#PSY-0077).
Learning Objectives: After this presentation, participants will be able to:
1. Differentiate the notion of “sexuated identification” from sexual anatomy.
2. Explain why Lacan approached sexuality in terms of formulas link to mathematics.
3. Recognize the function of Lacan's formulas of sexuation and the logic of sexuated identification.
