The Three Monotheisms and the Psychoanalytic Clinic
Rolando Karothy

Friday, December 10, 2021
6:30 PM – 8:30 PM

God is religions' name for the Other that can achieve the impossible conjunction of Symbolic and Real. Religion, whose practices embody the truth of an unutterable desire for the Other, is also a way to forge a bond with that desire: Judaism ponders the desire of the Other; Islam requires submission to the Other; Christianity posits the love of and for God. What clinical consequences can we draw from them?

Suggested Readings Freud: The Future of an Illusion (1927), Civilization and Its Discontents (1930). Lacan: Seminar XVII (1969-70), The Other Side of Psychoanalysis.

Rolando Karothy practices psychoanalysis in Buenos Aires. He has served as president of the Escuela Freudiana de Buenos Aires and of Lazos Institución Psicoanalítica in La Plata.
