God is religions' name for the Other that can achieve the impossible conjunction of Symbolic and Real. Religion, whose practices embody the truth of an unutterable desire for the Other, is also a way to forge a bond with that desire: Judaism ponders the desire of the Other; Islam requires submission to the Other; Christianity posits the love of and for God. What clinical consequences can we draw from them?

Rolando Karothy practices psychoanalysis in Buenos Aires. He has served as president of the Escuela Freudiana de Buenos Aires and of Lazos Institución Psicoanalítica in La Plata. Currently, he is a professor in the Master's in Psychoanalysis Program at the National University of Mar del Plata, and directs the journal Contexto en Psicoanálisis. He has published extensively.
