This presentation will be held in-person and via Zoom.

Through a rereading of the Oedipal configuration, we will reflect on the notion of normativity and its function in psychoanalysis. What are the theoretical consequences of Lacan's rereading of logic tradition? What are the clinical consequences of a novel reading of the notion of norm?

André Michels is a psychoanalyst practicing in Luxembourg and Paris, and a member of the Après-Coup faculty. He is also co-editor of the Jahrbuch für klinische Psychoanalyse, editor of Actualité de l’hystérie, and author of numerous articles on psychoanalysis. He is currently co-organizing a seminar on “The Law and Norms.”

Fee: $40; for students with ID: $10.

Continuing Education

Three (3) CE credits will be granted to Licensed Social Workers, Licensed Psychoanalysts, Licensed Psychologists, and Licensed Mental Health Counselors who have registered, have documented evidence of attendance of the presentation, and complete the evaluation form. Upon completion of the evaluation form, a Certificate of Completion will be emailed to all participants who comply with these requirements.

There is no fee for CE Credits for Members, AFs, and Yearly Participants of Après-Coup.

Learning Objectives: After this presentation, participants will be able to:

  1. Examine the role of the oedipal configuration in relation to the notion of normativity.

  2. Identify the theoretical consequences of Lacan’s rereading of logic tradition.

  3. Describe the clinical consequences of a novel reading of the notion of norm.
