On the One and the Pas-Tout — Paola Mieli

SEMINAR

On the One and the Pas-Tout

Paola Mieli

Saturday, January 28, 2023
10:00 AM – 12:00 PM (EST)

This presentation will be held in a hybrid format (in-person and via Zoom).

School of Visual Arts, 133 W. 21st Street, Room 402C, New York, NY (for in-person only)

Pursuing our reflections on voluntary servitude, this seminar continues to explore the relations between the subject and the collective and the discourses that organize them. Particular attention will be paid to the function of the One and Lacan’s logic of the pas-tout, as well as to the function of the subject supposed to know in social bonding, in the discourse of science, in that of religion, and in the unfolding of clinical treatment.

Suggested readings for January 28: Freud, The Future of an Illusion, 1927; J. Lacan, Les Noms-du Père, November 20th, 1963; Proposition du 9 Octobre 1967 sur le psychanalyste de l’École; Le triomphe de la religion, 1974.
