Transference and Its “Subjective Disparity”

Lacan opened his seminar of 1960-61 by saying he would deal with transference “in its subjective disparity,” and this reading group too will focus on the reasons transference cannot be an intersubjective relationship.

Readings: selected chapters on Lacan’s seminar on transference, and additional readings to be announced. For the first meeting reading, we will read The Seminar of Jacques Lacan, Book VIII, Transference (1960-61), Chapters X and XI.

Dates: Meetings will be held, via Zoom, on Thursdays from 8:00 pm to 9:15 pm on the following dates: November 12 , 2026, December 10, 2026, January 21, 2027 and February 18, 2027.

Lillian Ferrari is a psychoanalyst practicing in NYC, and a member and faculty member of Après-Coup Psychoanalytic Association. She has taught at Washington Square Institute and PINC (Psychoanalytic Institute of Northern California), and lectured at the Atlanta Psychoanalytic Society.
