This biography of the revolutionary thinker Antonio Gramsci encompasses his Sardinian childhood marked by poverty and illness; his years of study, intellectual production and political activism; and his last years of imprisonment under Fascism which failed to deflect his fundamental drive toward the future.

Angelo Villa practices child psychoanalysis in Milan. He is a member of Après-Coup Psychoanalytic Association and Espace Analytique (Paris). Author of several books on psychoanalysis with children but also on topics ranging from pop music to the Koran, he has been translated into French, Spanish, and English (Karnac Press’s Psychoanalysis and Severe Handicap), and he has himself translated Rosine and Robert Lefort’s La naissance de l’Autre into Italian.
